GCL Prospect Pulse: Carlos Correa, Stetson Allie, Anthony Alford, D.J. Davis, Gabriel Cenas, Wyatt Mathisen

(June 19/2012)
  • Astros SS Carlos Correa went 1-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base in his pro debut for the GCL Astros yesterday. The first pick in the 2012 MLB Draft singled in his first professional at-bat.
  • Pirates 3B Stetson Allie (yes, third baseman) had a big day at the plate in his first professional game as a hitter. Allie went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored will leading the GCL Pirates to a big win over the GCL Blue Jays.
  • Blue Jays OF D.J. Davis, the team's first pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, went 1-for-3 in his pro debut as the leadoff hitter for the GCL Blue Jays.
  • Blue Jays OF Anthony Alford batted second for the GCL Blue Jays and was also making his pro debut after being drafted in the third round of the 2012 MLB Draft. Alford singled up the middle in his first at-bat, and finished the day 1-for-4. He's set to play QB for Southern Mississippi University in the fall, but it will be interesting to see how he fares with the bat throughout the summer in the GCL.
  • Pirates C Wyatt Mathisen went 3-for-5, with a double and 2 RBI's. He also stole base and scored a run in his pro debut. Mathisen was the Pirates second round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.
  • Blue Jays 3B Gabriel Cenas went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and also drew a walk in his GCL debut. Cenas played in 19 games in the Dominican Summer League last season, batting .208/.368/.226 but has plus raw power. He looked good in minor league spring training prior to the season, impressing scouts with several big blasts in exhibition games.
